Education and History at Keele explores the nature of learning including core elements such as policy, teaching and practice, whilst investigating the past and key influences that have shaped global history such as social, economic, political, and cultural forces.

On this combined honours programme, you will actively engage with discussions around various topics such as psychological, sociological and cultural influences in education, and consider how these may evolve in the future. You will explore key issues and challenges associated with teaching and learning at different levels, such as primary and secondary.

You will learn to critically evaluate what education means to individuals and to consider important scenarios around the roles and responsibilities of teachers. You will explore how children learn and analyse contemporary assessment methods. This will involve the consideration of key factors such as age, the support a student may receive in a range of educational settings, as well as the influence of technology that plays a crucial role in their learning.


Throughout this combined honours programme you will build awareness of how the education sector operates and become familiar with the communication between students and teachers as well as the collaboration between professionals in the workplace. You will explore the ways in which teaching is delivered and consider classroom behaviour amongst students and how they learn.

History at Keele enables you to engage with academics who are experts across a diverse range of fields and periods of history. You will develop your knowledge, critical thinking, and analytical skills by studying a range of topics and learn how to research these areas effectively, how to critically interrogate evidence and reflect on pivotal moments in history. This will involve working both independently and as part of a team in order to broaden your knowledge and develop transferable skills that will allow you to interpret information from various sources critically and effectively.
